The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the U.S. Consulates General in Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar are monitoring planned protest activity throughout Pakistan on October 10, 2025. According to the embassy, large crowds and significant traffic congestion are expected due to these demonstrations. Authorities have indicated there will be an increased security presence, more checkpoints, and potential disruptions to mobile and internet networks in affected areas.
The embassy noted that road closures or blockages may occur near demonstration sites, which could cause delays or require detours. The duration of the protests remains uncertain. In a statement, officials advised American citizens in Pakistan to avoid large gatherings and remain alert: "We advise U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings and remain aware of their surroundings. Protests can be fluid in nature and even peaceful ones can turn violent."
U.S. citizens are encouraged to exercise caution if they find themselves near demonstrations, review personal security plans, monitor local media for updates, keep a low profile, carry identification, and cooperate with police if necessary.
Contact information for emergency assistance was provided for the embassy in Islamabad as well as consulates in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar. The State Department’s Consular Affairs division can also be reached by phone at 888-407-4747 or 202-501-4444 for further guidance.
The embassy encourages Americans residing in or traveling through Pakistan to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates from the State Department.
