The U.S. Embassy in Ouagadougou has announced a temporary suspension of all routine visa services starting October 10, 2025. The pause affects both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas, including those for tourism, business, study, and exchange programs. Impacted applicants have been informed about the cancellation of their appointments.
A statement from the embassy reads: "U.S. Embassy Ouagadougou has temporarily paused all routine visa services effective October 10, 2025. This pause includes immigrant visas and nonimmigrant visas for tourists, business travelers, students, exchange visitors, and most other nonimmigrant categories. Impacted visa applicants have been notified of their appointment cancellations. We will update our website when appointment scheduling resumes and inform applicants whose appointments were cancelled when they can reschedule. Applications for A-1, A-2, G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, C-2, and C-3 diplomatic and official visas will continue to be processed. The U.S. Embassy in Lome has been designated to conduct visa services for residents of Burkina Faso. Visit U.S. Visa News for additional information."
While regular visa categories are on hold, diplomatic and official visas (A-1, A-2, G-1 through G-4, C-2, and C-3) will still be processed by the embassy. During this period, residents of Burkina Faso seeking U.S. visas are directed to the U.S. Embassy in Lomé for consular services.
The embassy plans to notify affected applicants once it is possible to reschedule appointments and advises monitoring its website or visiting U.S. Visa News for updates.
