A demonstration is scheduled to take place outside the U.S. Consulate in Johannesburg on Friday, October 10, from 10:00 to 13:00. The U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg has issued an alert about the event, noting that increased police presence and traffic delays are expected in the area. The Consulate also cautioned that, "Even events intended to be peaceful can become violent."

The Consulate advised individuals in the area to remain aware of their surroundings, avoid all demonstrations and protests, monitor local media, and follow instructions from local authorities. U.S. citizens are encouraged to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which provides security updates and helps the Embassy contact enrollees in case of emergency.
