Ongoing demonstrations have been taking place near the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, with protestors expressing opposition to U.S. foreign policy. The embassy has stated that these demonstrations are expected to continue and is advising U.S. citizens in the area to remain alert and follow local news for updates.

"There is no indication at this time that these demonstrations will turn violent, but as with any large gathering, tensions can escalate unexpectedly and with little warning. U.S. citizens should exercise caution and avoid protest areas. Please note it is illegal for non-Malaysians to participate in demonstrations in Malaysia," according to a statement from the embassy.

The embassy recommends that U.S. citizens enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security alerts. The public is also encouraged to avoid large gatherings, monitor local media, and remain aware of their surroundings.

For assistance, U.S. citizens can contact the embassy by phone or email, or visit the mission website at https://my.usembassy.gov/. The State Department’s Consular Affairs office can also be reached for support.
