U.S. citizens in Greece have been advised to exercise increased caution due to the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel. The U.S. Mission in Greece issued a security alert on October 6, 2025, recommending that Americans remain vigilant and practice good personal security measures.

"Due to the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel and out of an abundance of caution, U.S. citizens are advised to remain vigilant, maintain heightened situational awareness, and practice good personal security measures," the U.S. Mission stated.

The embassy also said it would continue monitoring the situation and share updates as necessary. Recommended actions for U.S. citizens include being aware of their surroundings, avoiding demonstrations or protests, monitoring local media outlets, following instructions from local authorities, and enrolling in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). According to the mission: "STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates and makes it easier for the U.S. Mission to contact you in an emergency."
