Yuanta Financial Holding Company and the Yuanta Cultural and Educational Foundation recently organized an environmental education event as part of their ongoing efforts to support students in remote areas. The activity, held on September 20, brought together 68 students from Shangping Elementary School in Kaohsiung City and Wutai Elementary School in Pingtung County for a field trip to the Kaohsiung Cishang Sugar Agricultural and Creative Park.
The event was coordinated with the Cishan District Sugar Factory Community Development Association. Students participated in hands-on activities that included extracting natural fibers from banana leaf sheaths, creating sphagnum moss balls, and painting with sap from banana pseudostems. These experiences aimed to teach concepts of resource recycling and environmental sustainability while introducing local craftsmanship.
Shangping Elementary School focuses on integrating art into environmental education, while Wutai Elementary is known for its work preserving Rukai culture and ecological teaching. Both schools expressed appreciation for the invitation, noting that Yuanta Happiness Day aligns with their educational philosophies by providing experiential learning opportunities connected to Taiwan’s traditional sugar industry culture.
During the visit, students received Happiness Gift Packs containing jackets, pants, and sneakers. According to the Yuanta Foundation, “Receiving an invitation from Yuanta is like the joy of happiness knocking at your door; it feels as exhilarating as winning the lottery.” The Foundation emphasized that these gift packs represent more than material assistance—they aim to inspire children to pursue their dreams.
Since launching Yuanta Happiness Day in 2012, over 2,000 volunteers have participated across 68 sessions, distributing more than 9,000 customized gift packs to children in remote communities. The initiative works closely with local partners to extend care and educational opportunities throughout Taiwan.
