Mandela Washington Fellows return from U.S. training, focus on community impact in Togo

Deputy Chief of Mission Kim McClure recently welcomed back nine Togolese participants of the Mandela Washington Fellowship. The event highlighted the fellows' return after completing training at universities in the United States.

During the gathering, McClure emphasized the importance of using their new skills to benefit their local communities and to inspire others. She stated, “paying it forward” by applying the lessons learned in the United States to their communities at home and inspiring the next generation of leaders from their home towns."

The Mandela Washington Fellows shared details about projects they developed during their time in the U.S., which focus on community development and aim to strengthen connections between Togo and the United States.

According to McClure, "These MWF change-makers presented innovative projects reflecting their commitment to local development and strengthening the ties between the United States and Togo."

The program provided participants with training at American universities, equipping them with skills intended to help drive economic and social progress in Togo. McClure added, "We are proud to support these young leaders on their journey and to celebrate their vision and determination."

She concluded by saying, "Together, we are building strong bridges between Togo and the United States for a better future."
