Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer during the 80th United Nations High-Level Week in New York. The meeting focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between the United States and Peru, with particular attention to expanding economic opportunities for U.S. industries and enhancing security ties.
According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, "The Deputy Secretary commended Peru’s cooperation in regional efforts to end illegal immigration and emphasized the importance of advancing joint initiatives to disrupt criminal and terrorist networks, combat money laundering, and shield elections and political processes from illicit financing." Landau also acknowledged Peru's role in promoting economic growth and highlighted the United States' interest in increasing investment in Peru's critical minerals and infrastructure sectors.
