Tropical Depression Nine is forecast to strengthen and affect parts of the central and northwest Bahamas through Sunday night, according to an alert issued by the U.S. Embassy in Nassau on September 27, 2025. The National Hurricane Center reports that the weather system may bring tropical storm conditions, with rainfall expected to reach between four to six inches, and isolated areas possibly seeing up to ten inches over three days.
The Bahamas Disaster Risk Management Authority (DRM) has announced a Tropical Storm Warning for Long Island, Exuma & Cays, Cat Island, Rum Cay, Sand Salvador, and Ragged Island in the Central Bahamas. A Tropical Storm Watch has been put in place for New Providence, Andros, Eleuthera, Berry Islands, Abaco, and Grand Bahama in the Northwest Bahamas. The depression is expected to become a tropical cyclone within one or two days.
The U.S. Embassy advised residents and visitors to avoid travel to affected regions until the storm passes. "Flooding is likely in low-lying and flood-prone areas; avoid those areas if possible, or remain in a safe location until water recedes." Individuals are encouraged to ensure they have emergency supplies such as potable water, non-perishable foods, and fuel available.
