The U.S. Embassy has announced it will hold an online auction to sell surplus movable property, including household furniture and appliances. The auction is scheduled to take place from September 29 to October 5, 2025. Interested buyers can participate by submitting bids for listed items during this period.
All items are sold “as is” without guarantees or warranties. Bidders must agree to purchase items on a non-returnable basis and should be aware that maximum bid limits are set in local currency for each item. Participants are encouraged to monitor their bids closely throughout the auction process.
To participate, bidders must be at least 18 years old, register through the online registration form on the Hanoi Online Auction site, and comply with the rules of the online auction. Any questions regarding participation can be directed to HanoiGSOAuction@state.gov.
The embassy outlined several terms and conditions: “By participating in the auction, bidders acknowledge that they have agreed to purchase items ‘as is – nonreturnable basis’, without any refund, guarantee, or warranty.” Bidders are responsible for any additional charges such as taxes or customs duties. Winners who do not pay within three working days will be barred from future auctions. A receipt will only be issued after payment confirmation by the Embassy Cashier.
Winners must pay by bank transfer to the U.S. Embassy’s account at Citibank Hanoi before collecting their items. Items can only be picked up once payment has been confirmed in the embassy’s account. Paid items not collected within the designated time frame will be disposed of and cannot be recovered unless special arrangements are made with the auction manager.
Warehouse staff will move paid-for items in front of the storage building for pickup after payment confirmation; at that point, winners assume full responsibility for removing their purchases from embassy property promptly.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
- September 29–October 5: Online bidding is open.
- October 6: Winners receive notification emails and may begin making payments.
- October 7–9: Receipts are issued upon payment confirmation; winners present receipts to collect their items.
- October 8–10: Warehouse staff facilitate item removal; failure to collect may result in disposal of goods.
The embassy reserves final authority over all decisions related to the auction and retains discretion over bid acceptance and dispute resolution. According to embassy policy, personnel involved in organizing or controlling sales of government property are not eligible to bid.
