The Emergency Operations Center (COE) of the Dominican Republic has declared a red alert for several areas, including Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, San Cristobal, San Jose de Ocoa, and Azua. This alert comes as a disorganized tropical wave is expected to bring showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to parts of the country. Additionally, COE has issued yellow and green alerts for other provinces.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay informed about weather conditions through resources such as the National Hurricane Center at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ and the COE at http://www.coe.gob.do/ or its mobile app “alertaCOE.”

In case of emergencies, individuals should call 911 or reach out to the tourist police (POLITUR) at 809-200-3500 or via the “POLITUR APP.”
U.S. citizens living in or visiting the Dominican Republic are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which allows the U.S. Embassy to provide updates relevant to their location.
Further guidance includes reviewing family contingency plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance and ensuring travel documents are current.
