Santander has announced it will continue its sponsorship of London’s cycle hire scheme until 2032. The renewed partnership with Transport for London (TfL) extends a relationship that began in 2015.

The announcement was made on the Southbank in central London, where Banco Santander’s Executive Chair, Ana Botin, and Santander UK CEO, Mike Regnier, joined Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, TfL’s Customer Director Emma Strain, and London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner Will Norman to mark the occasion.

The new agreement involves a multimillion-pound investment aimed at improving the cycle hire fleet, upgrading on-street infrastructure, and launching an updated Santander Cycles app to streamline bike rentals for users.

Since Santander became sponsor in 2015, more than 106 million hires have been recorded across all bikes. The scheme now includes over 2,000 e-bikes alongside a fleet of 10,000 classic bikes and more than 800 docking stations throughout central and inner London. E-bikes were introduced in 2022 and have already seen over 2.8 million hires.

Further expansion is planned with new docking stations set to open in Agar Grove (Camden), Brockwell Lido (Brixton), City Island, Hackney, Harrow Road (Westminster), and Queen Street (City of London). This aims to increase accessibility for both residents and visitors seeking sustainable transport options.

In 2025 so far, there have been more than 6.1 million hires—a three percent rise compared to the same period last year.

Ana Botin said: "We are proud to renew our partnership with Transport for London. Since we started working together in 2015 we have helped millions of people discover cycling as an affordable way to get around one of the world’s greatest cities."

Sadiq Khan added: "I am delighted that Santander has renewed its support for our world-leading cycle hire scheme. This deal will help ensure that even more Londoners can enjoy the benefits of cycling – helping us build a safer, greener city for everyone."

Will Norman stated: "Londoners love Santander Cycles – this partnership renewal means even more people will be able to access affordable bikes across our city."

Emma Strain commented: "Santander Cycles is one of the most successful cycle hire schemes in Europe thanks to our fantastic partnership with Santander. We’re looking forward to working together over the next seven years as we make cycling easier and more accessible for everyone."
