The United States Government and Senegal have marked the conclusion of the Senegal Road Safety Initiative, a program aimed at improving road safety and fostering trust between citizens and law enforcement. The event highlighted the achievements of the three-year initiative, which was carried out in partnership with organizations such as PartnersGlobal and Partners West Africa-Senegal.
During the event, appreciation was expressed for the collaboration of the Ministry of Transportation, ANASER, and the Ministry of Education. Over its duration, the initiative trained 177 police and gendarmerie officers to address corruption and encourage citizen participation in road safety efforts. Nearly 5,000 schoolchildren participated in awareness campaigns designed to educate them on how to avoid road accidents.
Working with ANASER and the Ministry of Education, the project developed road safety guides and manuals for children and teachers. These resources are intended to continue supporting communities beyond the life of the initiative. At a local level, nine Monitoring Committees were established to bring together citizens, law enforcement, and local authorities for ongoing collaboration on road safety.
"The sustainment of these ongoing efforts will continue to keep children safe, build trust within communities, and empower law enforcement to uphold their duties," said a representative at the event.
The partnership between Senegal and the United States was emphasized as key to achieving these results. "Improving road safety protects lives and promotes safer trade and travel—goals that strengthen both Senegal and the United States. This project is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we work together to address shared challenges and advance mutual goals."
The ceremony concluded with recognition for all contributors to the success of this initiative.
