U.S. Ambassador to Panama Kevin Marino Cabrera visited Chiriquí province on September 25, 2025, as part of efforts to strengthen ties between the United States and Panama. His visit began at José Domingo de Obaldía Hospital in David, where he attended the closing ceremony of the joint medical mission Amistad 2025.

For two weeks, medical specialists from the United States Armed Forces worked with Panama’s Ministry of Health and Social Security Fund to provide care for more than 1,000 patients across Veraguas, Herrera, and Chiriquí provinces. The mission focused on specialties such as cardiology, gastroenterology, dentistry, family medicine, and neonatal/pediatric intensive care. Teams also completed facility upgrades including new air-conditioning systems and electrical improvements.

“The joint humanitarian mission Amistad was possible thanks to the expanded security cooperation framework between the United States and Panama,” said Ambassador Cabrera during the ceremony. “We arrive to Chiriquí with great satisfaction and, above all, with the conviction that the friendship between the United States and Panama is stronger today,” he added.

Ambassador Cabrera’s itinerary included a visit to San Juan de David school in San Juan del Tejar to observe a new potable water system donated by the U.S. Embassy under its “Agua en tu Aula” initiative. He also planned to donate backpacks and sports equipment for students.

Further meetings were scheduled with officials from David Mayor’s Office, Chiriquí Governor’s Office, and representatives from the National Assembly. The ambassador intended to tour facilities operated by American companies AES—Panama's largest U.S. investor—and Enfragen in Chiriquí.

In Boquete, Ambassador Cabrera was set to meet U.S. citizens who serve as liaisons for consular matters in western Panama. Additional activities included engaging with alumni of U.S.-sponsored programs and attending local events such as sampling regional coffee and visiting Boquete’s Flower Fair.

The Amistad 2025 medical mission took place from September 15–25 at Ministry of Health-designated facilities in David, La Mesa, and Chitré. It marked Panamá as the final stop in a ten-week regional campaign that previously included missions in Perú, Suriname, El Salvador, and Paraguay.
