The John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition, a simulated hearing based on the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement process, is set to begin with new support measures for participants. The event is organized by the European Law Students' Association (ELSA) and receives technical assistance from the WTO.
To help teams prepare, the WTO, the Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL), and ELSA are offering a series of webinars called "Legal Mooting Masterclass." According to organizers, these sessions aim to provide participants and their coaches with guidance needed for successful competition participation.
"The webinars will provide an overview of the competition, useful tools for research on WTO law, and tips on best practices for participating in the competition from experts from the WTO and ACWL," organizers stated.
Four webinar sessions are scheduled for 6 October and 10 October at various times to accommodate global participants. Registration is required in advance.
Each year, this moot court event allows hundreds of students worldwide to tackle current issues in WTO law while interacting with experienced panelists and sponsors from the organization. Organizers note that many past participants have moved into internships, graduate studies, or careers related to international trade law.
This year's case study is titled "Engeli – Measures Relating to Critical Minerals." It focuses on how WTO members can promote sustainability through local content requirements, form partnerships around critical minerals, and address human rights concerns within supply chains while adhering to WTO regulations.
