Siemens has announced a new alliance with machine builders aimed at improving the use of industrial artificial intelligence through data sharing. The agreement will see the exchange of anonymized machine data among participating companies, with a focus on strict adherence to data protection and security standards.
The shared data will be used to develop and train AI models designed for industrial manufacturing. One application mentioned is the automated creation of part programs for machine tools, which are essential instructions that guide special manufacturing machines.
Other planned uses include predictive maintenance with more accurate forecasts specific to each machine, adaptive manufacturing processes that can respond in real time to changing conditions, and efforts to optimize energy efficiency by controlling machine parameters intelligently.
Busch commented on the importance of this initiative: "Access to high-quality machine data from different manufacturers is the key," Busch explains. "With this alliance, we can develop AI systems that reflect the complexity entailed in development and manufacturing, and so it will become a powerful partner for skilled workers."
The long-term goal of the alliance is to expand its reach by involving more companies, not just within the machine tool sector but also across various industries, in order to broaden the impact of industrial AI applications.
