U.S. Embassy Havana has issued a weather alert to inform U.S. citizens in Cuba about the ongoing 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, which continues through November 30. The embassy highlights that tropical storms and hurricanes are common in the Caribbean during this period.

The embassy notes that Cuba’s electrical grid is becoming more unstable, referencing its September 10, 2025 Security Alert. Power outages across the country are increasingly likely, and any major storm could significantly impact electricity services.

U.S. citizens in Cuba are advised to prepare for possible severe weather by creating personal emergency action plans that do not depend on U.S. government assistance. The embassy advises: “Follow the instructions of local civil defense authorities and monitor local media for developments.”

Additional recommendations include staying informed about weather conditions through both local and U.S. sources such as the National Hurricane Center, storing water and non-perishable food, being ready to shelter in place, and keeping friends or family updated on your location via phone or social media.

The embassy encourages enrollment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive updates and subscribing to their WhatsApp channel for information: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbBWEpNCsU9TsOaCjm3K
