Andrew Puzder has assumed his role as the United States Ambassador to the European Union, arriving in Brussels in August 2025. Puzder brings a background that includes work as a business leader, political commentator, author, attorney, and former chief executive officer.
He spent nearly 17 years leading CKE Restaurants, Inc., which operates Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s chains. During his tenure, he managed to guide the company through financial difficulties and oversaw its expansion to more than 3,800 restaurants in 45 states and 40 countries. The company employed over 115,000 people worldwide during this period.
Puzder is also known for lecturing on economics and politics at various associations and academic institutions. He regularly comments on economic issues and public policy for outlets including the Wall Street Journal, National Review, Fox News Online, and RealClearPolitics. In addition to contributing articles to these publications, he has authored several books focused on economic topics.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree from Cleveland State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Washington University School of Law.
