Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau held a call with Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to discuss ongoing cooperation between the two countries. According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Piggott, the conversation focused on reaffirming the partnership between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago.
During the discussion, Landau praised Trinidad and Tobago as a strong partner for the United States in the Caribbean region. He noted Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s public backing of U.S. military activities in the South Caribbean Sea. Both officials also reiterated their governments’ shared efforts to combat illegal narcotics and firearms trafficking.
Landau highlighted the significance of creating a U.N. Support Office for Haiti, with both leaders agreeing on the need for additional international support to address ongoing insecurity and violence in Haiti.
