Meta has announced a new feature for Threads, allowing users to attach up to 10,000 characters of text to a post. This update aims to address the common practice of users sharing screenshots of longer content such as book excerpts, articles, newsletters, and podcast transcripts when the platform's 500-character limit is insufficient.
According to Meta, "There are many ways to share your perspective on Threads, but we’ve noticed people expressing themselves with screenshots of longer content from books, articles, newsletters, podcast transcripts, and more when 500 characters isn’t enough."
The new feature lets any attached text be read directly within Threads. Users can also include links in their main post if they want to direct followers to the full content elsewhere. Meta states this change will allow users more space for complex perspectives and better promotion of their work.
"This gives people more room to express themselves and start conversations — and helps their community discover their work wherever it lives. For example, an author might attach text to their post to tease a portion of a forthcoming novel, while a journalist might promote their latest think piece," the company explained.
Text attachments are part of ongoing efforts by Meta to improve the creator experience on Threads and support communities connecting around shared interests. The company plans to continue collecting feedback on how these features can be improved.
