Siemens has announced the start of its training year for 2025, emphasizing a focus on digital skills and future-oriented competencies. The company is incorporating advanced learning platforms and immersive technologies, including virtual and augmented reality, into its training programs. Key topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, the internet of things (IoT), cybersecurity, and the circular economy are being integrated throughout Siemens’ education initiatives.
Generative AI is playing an increasingly important role in the curriculum. According to Bettina Weckesser, head of training at Siemens worldwide: “To keep pace with today’s rapid technological transformation, education has to become more and more a dynamic, future-oriented ecosystem in which learners, teachers, educational institutions and other relevant organizations successfully network and exchange ideas.” She added: “That’s why we’re fostering learning in the ecosystem, digital expertise, the responsible utilization of AI and life-long, self-determined learning.”
Siemens’ approach to training also includes promoting social values alongside technical skills. The company provides targeted programs designed to build resilience, entrepreneurial thinking, openness to technology, teamwork, and values orientation. Its Xplore concept aims to strengthen democratic values and social competencies through activities such as social media competitions and other events.
The company is also digitizing administrative processes for trainees by issuing training agreements electronically. These agreements can be signed remotely using e-signatures. This change aims to increase efficiency while supporting sustainability efforts.
In addition to workplace-based learning, Siemens has launched SIEYA@School—a web application that uses gamification and interactive materials for career orientation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). More than 21,000 young people have used SIEYA so far. The initiative brings STEM lessons directly into classrooms across Germany by offering modules that align with school curricula.
Currently about 4,200 apprentices and university students are enrolled in work-study programs at Siemens locations in Germany. For the current year this includes approximately 900 traineeships at Siemens AG, 280 at Siemens Mobility GmbH, and 200 at Siemens Healthineers AG. Additionally, Siemens is providing training for 320 young people on behalf of external partners. In fiscal year 2024 the company invested around €442 million globally in training and professional development.
