The United States Embassy in Nassau has begun operations at its new site located at 235 Shirley Street. On September 2, 2025, Chargé d’affaires Kimberly Furnish led the decommissioning of the former embassy location and oversaw the move to the new compound.
The new embassy, built at a cost of $227 million, began construction in 2019. The facility sits on a five-acre property and will serve as the base for officials from several U.S. government departments, including State, Justice, Defense, Homeland Security, and Treasury.
“This beautiful and technologically advanced new compound will allow us to deepen our collaboration with the people and government of The Bahamas,” stated Chargé Furnish. “Cooperation on our enduring shared interests – protecting our citizens, securing our borders, stopping crime and drug trafficking, facilitating robust economic and cultural exchange – will continue with increased energy. We are delighted to welcome you to our new home in The Bahamas.”
The building provides nearly 15,000 square feet of office space for embassy staff—more than three times what was available at the previous Queen Street location. The consular section includes an expanded waiting area designed to improve experiences for both American citizens and visa applicants.
