Demonstrations are expected to take place in Jakarta and other cities across Indonesia, according to an alert issued by the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta on September 1, 2025. The embassy warns that these events have the potential to turn violent.

In Jakarta, planned demonstrations are set for several locations including Brimob Jakarta base at Jalan Kwitang in Senen, Polda Metro Jaya at Jalan Jend Sudirman & Gatot Subroto avenue near SCBD & Pacific Place, MPR-DPR Parliament Complex in Senayan area, Polres Jakarta Selatan at Darmawangsa area, INP National Headquarters at Jalan Trunojoyo avenue next to ASEAN Secretariat, Otista avenue in East Jakarta, and KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) at Rasuna Said Kuningan.

As of 8:30 a.m., there were no active protests reported in central Jakarta and all roads remained open. However, the embassy advises travelers to allow extra time if heading to the airport as alternate routes may be necessary due to possible disruptions.

In Medan, student groups plan to protest starting at 10:00 a.m. with about 500 participants gathering at city center locations such as Merdeka Walk and Post Bloc. Additional protests involving students and online taxi drivers are scheduled for later in the day with an estimated total of another 500 participants. There have been no reports of street closures or public transit outages so far.

The U.S. Embassy has provided guidance for those residing or traveling in affected areas:
