The Volkswagen Group will present a range of new technologies and mobility concepts at the IAA Mobility event in Munich, which takes place from September 7 to 12. The company’s exhibition stand at the IAA Summit in hall B1 will host world premieres, product launches, and discussions with business and political leaders.
According to the company, the event will highlight Volkswagen Group’s efforts to make advanced technology widely accessible. This includes electric and hybrid vehicles, range extender concepts, developments in automated and autonomous driving supported by artificial intelligence (AI), as well as new approaches to urban mobility. The Group says its use of AI is central to increasing development speed, quality, and competitiveness across vehicle production.
Group CEO Oliver Blume commented on several occasions throughout the week. On Monday’s Press & Design Day, he joined Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, to introduce the Electric Urban Car Family—a collection of models from Volkswagen, CUPRA, and Škoda that share one platform but target different customer groups. “The Electric Urban Car Family shows how we are bringing the full strength of the Group to the market: one platform, four characters, each brand with a clear customer focus: Making E-mobility more accessible then ever. Attractively priced. And profitable at the same time,” said Blume.
Also on Monday, Volkswagen Group Technology highlighted advances in battery systems and energy sector business opportunities alongside subsidiaries PowerCo and Elli. Later that day a panel discussion focused on design strategy featured Blume and Head of Design Michael Mauer. “Design goes beyond a distinguishing feature, it is a factor for success,” they stated.
On Tuesday—Politics & AI Day—the program included a discussion about Germany's potential leadership in AI within Europe with guests such as Hauke Stars and Professor Dr Luise Hölscher. The panel explored what steps are needed for Germany to advance in this field.
Later that day MOIA CEO Sascha Meyer joined Blume and Christian Senger (Volkswagen Autonomous Mobility) along with Germany’s Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder to discuss how autonomous driving could benefit Germany’s industry base.
Wednesday was dedicated to technology topics under “WE POWER E-MOBILITY FOR ALL.” The schedule included updates on e-mobility innovation from executives like Thomas Schmall (Group Board Member for Technology), Frank Blome (PowerCo CEO), Giovanni Palazzo (Elli CEO), followed by technical talks covering platforms for e-mobility engineering, battery advancements, and smart energy solutions.
Thursday focused on software with CARIAD hosting an Auto x Software Conference featuring industry figures such as Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon and VDA President Hildegard Müller. The discussions covered software strategies related to customer experience and vehicle development using modular technology stacks and AI-based solutions for infotainment or automated driving.
Friday addressed urban mobility challenges through presentations involving MOIA representatives as well as FC Bayern Munich executives discussing AI-based traffic management during major events. Former national football player Stefan Effenberg participated in an autograph session before students from Technical University of Munich competed in a live Tech Challenge focusing on future mobility ideas.
