On September 1, Secretary of State Marco A. Rubio issued a statement congratulating Vietnam on its National Day, which falls on September 2. Rubio extended his congratulations to both the government and people of Vietnam on behalf of the United States.

In his message, Rubio acknowledged Vietnam’s achievements and ongoing development. “The United States admires the resilience, determination, and progress made by the Vietnamese people. Vietnam continues to demonstrate remarkable growth and development, becoming a vital partner in the Indo-Pacific region and a leader in addressing shared global challenges,” he said.

This year marks three decades since diplomatic relations were established between the two countries. The United States has worked with Vietnam under what is called the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This framework has increased cooperation in areas such as security, science and technology, education, maritime security, and efforts against transnational crime.

Rubio noted that this anniversary serves as an opportunity to reaffirm commitments between the two nations: “As we commemorate this historic occasion, we reaffirm our commitment to deepening our nations’ bonds. Together, we will continue to advance peace, prosperity, and security for the American and Vietnamese people, as well as for the broader Indo-Pacific region.”

He concluded his remarks by sending best wishes to Vietnam: “On this special day, I send my warmest wishes to the people of Vietnam for a joyous celebration and a prosperous year ahead.”
