Roads near Brimob Senen in Central Jakarta were closed on the morning of August 31, 2025, due to active protests in the area. The closure affects roads approximately one kilometer from both the U.S. Embassy and the Parliament building (DPR). According to updates, while these protest areas remain inaccessible, other parts of Jakarta such as around Polda Metro Jaya headquarters are reported to be quiet and roads in the SCBD area remain open.
There have also been reports of some entrances to the airport toll road in central Jakarta being closed; however, alternate routes are available for travelers. Those heading to the airport are advised to allow extra time for their journey due to possible detours.
The U.S. Embassy issued a statement advising American citizens and others in Jakarta: "Avoid the area around protests and demonstrations. Monitor local media for updates. Avoid crowds. Notify friends and family of your safety. Be aware of your surroundings. Become familiar with alternate routes to common destinations and plan to avoid traffic disruptions. Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists."
The embassy also encouraged people to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for timely information and alerts about security situations abroad.
