The U.S. Embassy in Madagascar has announced an online sealed bid auction for a variety of items, including office and residential furniture, appliances, motorcycles, a generator, computer equipment, and miscellaneous goods. The auction is scheduled to take place on Monday, September 8th and Tuesday, September 9th, 2025.
Interested participants can view the auction catalog with photos and descriptions on the “U.S. Embassy Madagascar” Facebook page starting Sunday, September 7th. The catalog will include details about each item as well as information about the bidding process.
To participate in the auction, individuals must visit the embassy’s Facebook page to review the catalog before placing bids. Bidding opens at 8:00 AM on Monday, September 8th and closes at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, September 9th. Participants are required to submit their bids through a Google Form for each lot they wish to purchase. Each submission must include full name, phone number, ID card or passport number as it appears on official identification documents, and an uploaded copy of that identification.
The embassy states: “Please note that for a bid to be valid, all the information required must be complete and accurate. The amount of your bid must be above the minimum bid price indicated on the list.”
Winning bidders will receive notification via email from AntanUSEmbAuction@state.gov between Wednesday, September 10th and Friday, September 12th. Winners are expected to respond promptly as formal acceptance of payment terms; otherwise, second-place bidders may be contacted. If winning bidders decide not to proceed after agreeing to purchase items, they are required to inform the embassy by email by the specified deadline.
“In the event of a tie,” according to instructions from organizers,“tying bidders will be immediately contacted and provided an opportunity to submit a higher bid.” All items are sold “as is” with no returns permitted.
Payment must be made in cash—including a mandatory 44% tax—at an embassy-designated bank account by Friday, September 12th at 4:00 PM. Due to coin shortages in local currency (Ariary), total amounts should be rounded up; for example,“if the total amount is 9.49,” organizers specify,“you would round up to 10.00.”
Winners can collect their purchases at the embassy during designated pick-up times: Saturday, September 13th (most items) from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM or Sunday morning (September 14th) for remaining lots including the generator. Buyers need to present their bank deposit slip along with identification when collecting goods and are responsible for loading purchased items into their vehicles.
