Four new Peace Corps Response Volunteers were sworn in at a ceremony in Monrovia on August 29, 2025. The event was attended by U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Joseph Zadrozny, who is also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, and Peace Corps Liberia Country Director Vernice Guthrie.

The newly sworn-in volunteers will work for nine to twelve months alongside Liberian colleagues. Their assignments focus on the education and health sectors, aiming to strengthen communities and create more opportunities for young people and families.

In the education sector, the volunteers will serve as science teacher trainers and help improve science laboratories in schools throughout Liberia. In health, their responsibilities include supporting malaria prevention efforts, expanding community health outreach programs, and assisting with disease surveillance in rural areas where these services are most needed.

Before starting their roles, the volunteers completed two weeks of training that covered language skills, cultural orientation, and technical preparation.

During the ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires Zadrozny shared a quote from Peace Corps founder Sargent Shriver: “It is not what you get out of life that counts. It’s what you give and what is given from the heart.”

Other attendees included Dr. Dieula Tchoualeu, Country Director in Liberia of the Center for Disease Control; Dr. Joseph T. Isaac, President of Margibi University; and Dr. Ponnie Robert Dolo, Nimba County Health Officer.

Since its inception in 1962, more than 4,300 Americans have served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Liberia. Currently, seventeen volunteers are working in communities across the country as part of ongoing cooperation between Liberia and the United States.
