A delegation from the United States Congress, led by Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Deb Fischer (R-NE), is visiting Taiwan on August 29-30, 2025. The trip is part of a broader tour of the Indo-Pacific region. During their visit, the senators are scheduled to meet with senior leaders in Taiwan to discuss issues including U.S.-Taiwan relations, regional security, trade, and investment.

Senator Wicker serves as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Upon arrival in Taipei, he stated: “Taiwan is one of our country’s most reliable partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Our continued cooperation is critical amid what I regard as the most perilous threat environment we face since World War II.”

Senator Fischer highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two countries: “America’s decades-long partnership with Taiwan has been anchored in growth to democracy, freedom, and economic opportunity — creating not only greater prosperity for our people, but also greater stability for the world. I am pleased to be meeting with Taiwanese officials and discuss how we can advance our shared goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific and strengthen the enduring friendship of our peoples. The Taiwanese people, the success of their highly advanced economy, and their resolve to live in a free society, are a symbol of hope for the world. I’m glad to be here and to stand shoulder to shoulder with the free people of Taiwan as we work together to enhance their right to self-determination.”

The visit emphasizes ongoing U.S. support for its partnership with Taiwan and reiterates both sides’ interest in maintaining stability and openness across the Indo-Pacific region.

Senator Wicker has represented Mississippi in Congress since 2007 and currently chairs several committees related to defense and commerce. He has also contributed legislation supporting national security measures such as increasing naval capacity.

Senator Fischer represents Nebraska and holds roles on multiple Senate committees relevant to armed services, appropriations, commerce, agriculture, rules, and ethics. She chairs subcommittees focusing on strategic forces as well as telecommunications.

Both senators have extensive backgrounds serving at state and federal levels prior to joining this delegation visit.
