Ambassador Nicole D. Theriot of the United States delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the Courtyard Marriott at Cheddi Jagan International Airport on August 27, 2025. The event was attended by Mr. Bassoo and representatives from Cardinal Investments, as well as Bishop Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works, members of the Diplomatic Corps, invited guests, and media personnel.

In her speech, Ambassador Theriot highlighted the significance of the new hotel for Guyana’s development and its role in strengthening ties between Guyana and the United States. She stated: "Today, we are not just opening a hotel — we are marking a moment that reflects the power of vision, dedication, and strong partnership. The Courtyard Marriott stands as a proud new landmark at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, sending a clear message that Guyana is open for business and ready to welcome those who want to invest in the future."

She emphasized the importance of first impressions for travelers arriving in Guyana: "From the very first step a traveler takes into this hotel, they will be greeted with the warmth and hospitality for which Guyana is known. That first impression matters—and the dedicated team who will operate this hotel will make it count every single day."

Ambassador Theriot also addressed broader economic impacts: "This opening also reflects the strength of the partnership between Guyana and the United States. US companies are eager to partner across all sectors of Guyana’s growing economy, bringing investment, expertise, innovation, and a commitment to shared success. Together, we work to create opportunities, enhance service standards, and build lasting connections between our people."

She noted that beyond serving travelers at CJIA airport, the hotel would contribute to job creation and skills development within Guyana’s tourism and hospitality industries: "The Courtyard Marriott will play a role far beyond these walls. It will provide jobs, develop valuable skills, and contribute to the growth of Guyana’s tourism, hospitality, and service sectors. Those benefits will reach families, communities, and the wider economy."

Concluding her remarks with congratulations to those involved in bringing about this project—including Cardinal Investments and Marriott—she said: "So today, let’s celebrate not just a building, but a new chapter—one that will welcome increasing numbers of travelers coming for business, pleasure or both. One that will create connections and share the incredibly impressive story of Guyana with the entire world.

Congratulations to Cardinal Investments, the Marriott team, and everyone who will no doubt make this hotel a great success. Thank you so much!"
