Demonstrations are scheduled to occur on August 28, 2025, in Jakarta near the Parliament Building on Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto and the State Palace along the west side of MONAS Park on Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara. The protests are expected to begin at 9:00 am and continue throughout the day.

The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta has issued an alert advising individuals to avoid these areas due to the potential for demonstrations to become violent. According to the embassy, "Demonstrations are expected to take place on August 28, 2025, near the Parliament Building and the State Palace. The demonstrations will likely begin at 9:00 am and continue throughout the day. Protests have the potential to become violent, please avoid these areas."

Authorities plan road closures during this period. Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto will be closed from noon until evening, and temporary closures of the City Toll road are also anticipated.

The embassy has recommended several actions for those in Jakarta: avoid protest sites, monitor local media for updates, stay away from crowds, notify friends and family about your safety, remain aware of your surroundings, familiarize yourself with alternate routes to common destinations, and stay alert in locations frequented by tourists.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for updated information and alerts related to their safety while overseas. The embassy also advises following official social media channels for real-time updates.
