Samsung Electronics has announced that its One UI platform will be expanded to include home appliances, aiming to create a consistent software experience across smartphones, TVs, and smart appliances. The company said that Wi-Fi-enabled home appliances launched in 2024 and later will receive software updates for up to seven years after their release, with the first updates scheduled for September.
“By bringing One UI to smart appliances, we are transforming the way people interact with technology in their homes,” said Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team of the Digital Appliances (DA) Business at Samsung Electronics. “This consistency ensures that the experience feels natural and familiar across all our devices.”
The integration of One UI means that users will see similar design elements and functionality whether they are using a mobile device, TV, or home appliance. Features such as Bixby voice assistant, Gallery, and Samsung TV Plus will be available on multiple screens. The SmartThings platform will further connect devices into a single ecosystem, offering services like Family Care, Pet Care, and Home Care when supported by Wi-Fi connectivity.
The company stated that this move is intended to improve product longevity and security by providing extended software support throughout the lifecycle of each appliance. Updates coming in September for eligible 2024 models are expected to enhance usability, intelligence, and security.
Jeong Seung Moon added that Samsung’s goal is to provide “familiar interfaces, personalized services and consistent control regardless of screen or device.”
