Warren A. Stephens has officially begun his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s, following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate on April 29. The ceremonial oath was administered at the White House on April 30, with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in attendance. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau conducted an administrative swearing-in prior to the ceremony.
Upon arrival in London, Ambassador Stephens met with officials from the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office for an administrative presentation of his credentials. He was then welcomed by staff at the U.S. Embassy in London. Plans are underway for him to present his credentials to His Majesty King Charles III at a later date.
Ambassador Stephens will begin internal briefings with embassy section and agency heads to discuss ongoing efforts that support security and prosperity for both countries. In addition, he is scheduled to meet with UK government officials, as well as leaders in business, military, culture, and the arts.
In a statement regarding his appointment, Ambassador Stephens said, “I am grateful to the United States Senate for confirming my nomination to serve as the Ambassador of the United States to the Court of St James’s. I am excited to join President Trump’s team as we work to implement the President’s agenda. It is an honor to serve in the United Kingdom, one of our closest allies. I have a deep admiration for the UK, having traveled here many times for work and pleasure. I am committed to further strengthening the long-standing special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. I have always wanted to serve my country, and the opportunity to do so in this capacity is humbling and exciting. I look forward to meeting and working with the Mission UK team in the days and weeks ahead.”
