U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has extended congratulations to Indonesia on the country’s 80th anniversary of independence. In a statement, Rubio highlighted the importance of the partnership between the United States and Indonesia.
"On behalf of the people of the United States of America, I extend my sincere congratulations on the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence," Rubio said.
Rubio described Indonesia as a strategic partner that shares U.S. values related to democracy and maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region. He stated, "As a strategic partner, we deeply value our enduring relationship with Indonesia—a nation that shares our commitment to democratic principles and a free and open Indo-Pacific. Building on this strong foundation, the United States remains dedicated to enhancing collaboration with Indonesia in vital areas such as energy, trade, information technology, and security."
He also noted intentions to work closely with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s administration to support economic growth for both countries: "We look forward to working closely with the Prabowo administration to foster greater prosperity for both the American and Indonesian people."
The Secretary concluded by recognizing more than seven decades of diplomatic relations between the two nations: "As we celebrate 76 years of diplomatic ties between our nations, I send my warmest regards to the people of Indonesia."
