Howden Re has announced the appointment of Candy Wong as Head of Treaty for Hong Kong. Wong will begin her new role on August 18, 2025, marking another step in the company’s efforts to expand its reinsurance platform in the Hong Kong market.
Wong brings over four decades of experience in the reinsurance industry, with significant leadership roles within Hong Kong. Before joining Howden Re, she was Managing Director at Guy Carpenter after its merger with JLT Re. Her career also includes more than 30 years at Aon Re China Ltd., where she held a managing director position.
This appointment comes after Howden Re launched its Hong Kong reinsurance platform under Managing Director Roy Wong and made senior hires including brokers Brian Chan and Karen Liu. The company is also growing across Asia Pacific, appointing John Philipsz as Head of Australia and New Zealand and establishing a treaty offering in Taiwan led by Jimmy Tsai.
As Head of Treaty, Wong will lead the Hong Kong office and focus on developing the firm’s treaty reinsurance services for clients based in the region.
Andy Souter, Head of Asia Pacific at Howden Re International said: “Candy is one of the most experienced and trusted professionals in the Hong Kong reinsurance market. Her deep expertise, leadership credentials, and client insight make her a vital addition to our growing platform. She has a strong track record of building both Specialty and Property & Casualty capabilities, which will help to shape our local presence for years to come. Together with the rest of the leadership team, she will support our growing reputation for client-focused excellence in the region.”
Candy Wong said: “I am excited to join Howden Re at such an exciting time for its business in Asia Pacific. I look forward to working closely with Roy and the broader leadership team to help build a treaty proposition that reflects the needs and ambitions of Hong Kong clients.”
