ANZ has announced the appointment of Ender Tanar as Country Head for ANZ Japan, pending regulatory approval. Mr Tanar will report to Simon Ireland, Managing Director, International.

Currently serving as ANZ Country Head for Germany, Mr Tanar has held that position for nearly seven years. His previous experience includes senior roles at Lloyds Bank, Mizuho, KPMG, and JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he worked across various financial sectors in Europe.

Simon Ireland commented on the appointment: “Ender is a seasoned banker, with a proven track record working across financial institutions, corporate banking, and debt capital markets.

“Japan is a key trading partner to both Australia and New Zealand, and it continues to be a critical market for ANZ. Our strategy to support multinational customers with trade and capital flows across the Asia Pacific region has never been more important.

“There are significant opportunities in Japan, particularly in our Markets, Financial Institutions, and Debt Capital Markets businesses. I’m confident Ender is the right person to take our business in Japan into the next chapter.

“I’m pleased we were able to make this appointment internally, once again reflecting the breadth and depth of leadership we have across our international network.

“I want to thank Mitchell Mason for his significant contribution to ANZ Japan as Country Head over the past seven years and wish him the best in his future endeavours,” Mr Ireland said.

Mr Tanar is expected to begin his new role during the last quarter of 2025 after receiving necessary regulatory and travel approvals.

ANZ has operated in Japan since 1969.
