U.S. citizens in Guatemala City have been warned of a heightened risk of inter-gang violence in commercial areas of Zone 16. The U.S. Embassy issued the alert after receiving credible information that the threat will be present from August 14 through August 17, 2025.
The embassy has advised U.S. government personnel to use caution while in Zone 16 and encourages all U.S. citizens to do the same. According to the security message, individuals should "exercise caution in commercial areas in Zone 16" and "be aware of your surroundings."
