There were no major changes in the human rights situation in Timor-Leste during 2024, according to a new report. The document highlights credible reports of child marriage and the continued presence of some of the worst forms of child labor.

The report states, "The government took credible steps to identify and prosecute members and officials of the security services who committed human rights abuses; however, public perceptions of impunity persisted."

Further details on these issues are available in the full report from the U.S. Department of State: https://www.state.gov/reports/2024-country-reports-on-human-rights-practices/timor-leste/. The report can be downloaded in both Tetum and English.
