The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi has announced an online auction for surplus movable property, including household furniture and appliances. The auction will take place from August 18 to August 24, 2025, and is open to interested buyers who meet the registration requirements.

According to the embassy, "All items are sold 'as is' without any guarantees or warranties. By participating in the auction, bidders agree to purchase items on a non-returnable basis. Maximum bid limits are indicated for each item in local currency. Bidders are encouraged to monitor their bids closely to stay informed of bids. Winners will receive an email with a link to the auction application, where they can review the items after successfully logging in."

To participate, bidders must be at least 18 years old and register through the online form provided on the Hanoi Online Auction website. Registration also requires agreement with all auction rules.

The embassy emphasized that "By participating in the auction, bidders acknowledge that they have agreed to purchase items 'as is – nonreturnable basis', without any refund, guarantee, or warranty." Bidders are responsible for additional charges such as taxes or customs duties.

Winners who do not pay within three working days will be barred from future auctions. Payment must be made by bank transfer to the specified U.S. Embassy account at Citibank Hanoi. The embassy noted that processing time for bank transfers may exceed one day and items cannot be collected until payment is confirmed.

For item pickup, winners must present proof of payment either as an original receipt or a printed version from internet banking. If paid items are not collected during the scheduled period—August 26-29—they may be disposed of by embassy staff.

The embassy retains final authority over all decisions related to the auction process: "All decisions regarding the auction will be made by the Embassy. All decisions are considered final." Additionally, per internal regulations (14 FAM 217.2-3m), mission personnel involved in managing government property sales cannot participate as bidders.
