United States expresses condolences after fatal helicopter crash in Ghana

The United States government has extended its condolences to Ghana following a helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals on August 6. The U.S. expressed sympathy to the Government of Ghana, as well as to the families, friends, and colleagues of those who died in the incident.

Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Rolf Olson visited several locations, including Ghana’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Environment, Science and Technology, NADMO, and the NDC party headquarters. At each site, Olson signed condolence books to honor the memory of the victims.

“We continue to stand in solidarity with the people and government of Ghana at this time of mourning,” Olson stated.

Among those who lost their lives were Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate; Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The U.S. government reiterated its support for Ghana during this period. “The United States stands in solidarity with the Ghanaian people during this time of mourning. We honor the memory” of those who served their country with dedication and commitment.

Statements from Department of State spokesperson Tammy Bruce and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau also conveyed condolences regarding the tragedy.
