The U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Korea has announced the launch of the U.S-Korea Talent Exchange Through Study Abroad program, an initiative aimed at supporting high-achieving Korean students interested in fields important to both countries, such as STEM, advanced manufacturing, defense technology, energy, and entrepreneurship.
According to the embassy, the program is designed to “identify and develop exceptional Korean students whose skills, values, and ambitions align with U.S. economic, technological, and security priorities.” The initiative seeks to strengthen partnerships between American institutions and talented Korean students in areas considered critical for future cooperation.
A key component of the program involves training a group of Korean teachers, guidance counselors, and international program administrators through a three-day workshop at the American Diplomacy House. The workshop will focus on guiding qualified Korean students through the process of applying to U.S. universities. After this training session, participants will travel to the United States for 10 days to gain direct experience with higher education opportunities there.
Following their return from the study tour, participants are expected to deliver presentations together with EducationUSA representatives. These sessions will take place at locations including the American Diplomacy House and American Corners as well as networking events throughout South Korea.
The total funding available for this opportunity is $120,000 under FY25 Smith Mundt Public Diplomacy Funds. Applications must be submitted by September 2, 2025.
