The U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Korea has announced a new funding opportunity aimed at enhancing collaboration between the United States and South Korea in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors. The initiative, titled "U.S.-ROK Alliance on Shipbuilding and Maritime Cooperation," seeks to address challenges such as supply chain vulnerabilities, regulatory differences, market trends, and technical developments.

According to the announcement, the program will form research working groups consisting of experts from academia, government, business, and think tanks from both countries. These groups are scheduled to meet monthly through discussions, lectures, workshops, and seminars held in both Korea and the United States. Their goal is to bring together specialists from related fields to consolidate knowledge, develop practical recommendations for policy makers, and look for new opportunities for joint work.

The initiative will conclude with an international conference in Korea where participants will share their findings. Insights generated throughout the program will be summarized into recommendations intended to guide U.S. and Korean policies as well as promote economic security and bilateral investment.

"This notice is subject to availability of funding." The embassy notes that award details may change before finalization.

Applications for participation must be submitted via email by September 2, 2025.
