Phil Nervig has been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe, starting in August 2025. Before this role, Nervig served as Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Manila from August 2023. He also led the Political-Economic Section at the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and was Deputy Director in the Office of Economic Policy within the East Asia and Pacific Bureau.
Nervig’s overseas assignments have included postings in Indonesia, Zambia, Ukraine, and Laos.
A native of Minnesota, Nervig completed his undergraduate studies at St. Olaf College with a focus on economics and Russian language. He later earned a master’s degree in international finance from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. Nervig is married to Katherine, and they have two sons.
