The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program is now open for applications for its 2026 cycle. This initiative, sponsored by the J. William Fulbright Program, offers a nine-month, non-degree fellowship at colleges and universities across the United States. Awardees will teach Arabic while enrolling in at least two courses each semester, including one course focused on American Studies.

The program provides opportunities for young teachers and graduate students to take courses either for credit or on an audit basis. FLTA participants are expected to assist with up to twenty hours of language classes per week and facilitate cultural activities such as events, language clubs, and conversation tables. Early career English teachers or professionals in related fields like translation are considered ideal candidates. Applicants from American Studies, Journalism and Media, and American/English Literature may also be eligible.

Applications must be submitted online by Monday, September 1, 2025 at 11:59 PM Beirut time.

Eligibility criteria include Lebanese citizenship or holding a Special Travel Document issued for Palestinian refugees; U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents cannot apply. Applicants should have no more than seven years of teaching experience or be training to become teachers, possess the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree by June 1, 2026, demonstrate fluency in English and proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic, have limited prior experience in the United States, be committed to serving as cultural ambassadors for Lebanon, and reside in Lebanon throughout the nomination process.

Preference is given to those without significant recent experience in the United States or abroad.

"Incomplete and late applications will be ineligible. Please note that only shortlisted applicants will be contacted."

The U.S. Government covers participants’ expenses such as roundtrip airfare, accommodation, and health insurance if funds are available. Selection is based on merit.
