Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of its Micro RGB display, which it describes as the world’s first large-screen TV with a micro-scale RGB LED backlight. The 115-inch display introduces a new approach to color accuracy and contrast for ultra-premium televisions.

The Micro RGB uses Samsung’s own technology that arranges red, green, and blue micro LEDs—each smaller than 100 micrometers—in a precise pattern behind the screen. This design allows for individual control over each LED, offering improved precision compared to conventional backlighting systems.

“Micro RGB achieves unprecedented precision in the control of micrometer-sized RGB LEDs, raising the bar for color accuracy and contrast in consumer displays,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “With this launch, we’re setting the standard in the large-sized, ultra-premium TV market and reinforcing our commitment to next-generation display innovation.”

The company says its Micro RGB is powered by an AI engine that optimizes both picture and sound by analyzing frames in real time. This technology also enhances color in scenes where tones are dull, aiming to provide a more vivid viewing experience.

Samsung notes that the display delivers 100% color coverage of BT.2020—a recognized international standard for color accuracy—and has received ‘Micro RGB Precision Color’ certification from VDE, a German electrical engineering certification institute.

Other features include Glare Free technology to reduce reflections in bright environments and a slim metal design intended to fit various interiors. The TV integrates Samsung Vision AI technologies such as AI-powered picture and sound adjustments, as well as an updated Bixby voice assistant using generative AI for more conversational interactions.

Security is provided through Samsung Knox, while software updates are supported by a seven-year free Tizen OS upgrade program.

Following its introduction in Korea, Samsung plans to release Micro RGB in the United States before expanding globally with additional size options.
