Fubon Financial Holdings has been ranked 32nd globally and 4th in the global financial industry in the "World’s Most Sustainable Companies" list, compiled by TIME and Statista. The ranking evaluated more than 5,700 companies from 35 countries and placed Fubon at the top among private financial holding companies in Taiwan for the second consecutive year.
The assessment considered over 20 key performance indicators such as carbon emission intensity, carbon reduction rates, energy intensity, renewable energy usage ratio, workplace safety, and employee gender ratios. Results also referenced international sustainability evaluations from DJSI, CDP, and MSCI to select the top 500 companies across 21 industries.
Richard M. Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, stated: "Since 2021, Fubon Financial Holdings has proposed four sustainable strategies: 'decarbonization, digitalization, empowerment, and connection', and has continued to implement green finance and low-carbon transition. In particular, it has excelled in responsible finance, setting a target for green finance to reach NT$2.9 trillion by 2030. For two consecutive years, it has partnered with subsidiaries to hold carbon reduction workshops, assisting customers in accelerating their transition processes. Regarding operational carbon reduction, by 2024, Fubon Financial Holdings and its subsidiaries aim for a combined scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions reduction of 29.6% compared to the baseline year of 2020, achieving a carbon reduction rate of 175.4%. The company also continues to increase the use of renewable energy, with a total usage of 16.564 million kilowatt-hours in 2024, accounting for approximately 16.4% of the total electricity consumption for that year. Fubon also continues to purchase green power, with a total procurement volume reaching 2,161.8 million kilowatt-hours by 2025 and will continue to increase green power procurement annually according to the carbon reduction pathway set by the SBT."
The company has focused on internal education initiatives related to sustainability since establishing the "Fubon Sustainability Club" in 2024. The club offers courses on topics such as global risk analysis and impact investing to help employees stay updated on global sustainability trends.
Fubon's commitment has been recognized internationally; it has been listed as a constituent stock of both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for eight consecutive years and the Dow Jones Sustainability Emerging Markets Index for nine years running. It remains included in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook after evaluation against nearly 10,000 companies worldwide. Additionally, Fubon received an 'A' rating from Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for five straight years since 2020 and maintained an AA rating in MSCI ESG assessments.
