Chuka Asike has started his role as Deputy Chief of Mission to the U.S. Mission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in August 2025. Asike is a career Foreign Service Officer with experience in several regions and government departments.

Before this assignment, Asike was the Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Fukuoka, Japan from June 2022 to June 2025. In that role, he was responsible for southwest Japan and worked with two U.S. military bases located within the consular district.

Prior to his time in Japan, Asike served as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Development Results and Accountability for one year. There, he focused on policies related to multilateral development banks (MDBs) and their projects and investments in Asia and Africa.

Asike also held positions as Special Assistant and Chief of Staff to the State Department’s Assistant Secretary of African Affairs, as well as Financial Economist in the Department’s Office of Development Finance within the Economic Bureau. During his tenure at the Economic Bureau, he acted as principal liaison to the Asian Development Bank. He also spent a year seconded to the World Bank’s Office of the U.S. Executive Director representing the State Department.

His overseas assignments include serving as Chief of the Political and Economic Section at U.S. Embassy Luanda in Angola, along with roles as an economic officer in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
