Viraj LeBailly is currently serving as Acting Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm. She is a member of the Senior Foreign Service and previously held the role of Acting Deputy Chief of Mission from 2024 to 2025, as well as Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy in Ankara, Turkiye, between 2022 and 2024.
LeBailly’s career includes several positions in Washington, D.C., such as Senior Advisor in the State Department’s Bureau of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, where she worked on global public diplomacy modernization. She was also Deputy Director of the Political Training Division at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center and served as Senior Sri Lanka and Maldives Desk Officer.
Her overseas assignments have included roles as Public Affairs Officer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has also worked at U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Maputo, and New Delhi.
LeBailly holds degrees in International Relations from Yale University and Trinity College in Connecticut. She is married to another U.S. diplomat and has two children.
