The United States has announced a new AI Action Plan aimed at strengthening its position in the global race for artificial intelligence leadership. The plan outlines efforts to drive innovation, expand infrastructure, and lead international cooperation on AI technology.
According to the announcement, the U.S. will prioritize removing regulatory barriers to support private sector development of advanced AI systems. The government intends to promote open-source models and invest in research focused on interpretability and robustness of AI technologies.
A key part of the plan includes expanding domestic semiconductor manufacturing and constructing secure data centers for sensitive operations. Upgrades to the national power grid are also planned to address increased energy demands associated with large-scale AI applications. These infrastructure improvements are expected to create jobs while protecting critical systems from foreign threats.
On international policy, the United States is committed to exporting its AI technology to allied nations and enforcing export controls designed to protect sensitive innovations. Efforts will focus on ensuring that global standards for AI reflect democratic values such as freedom, innovation, and human dignity.
"We are unleashing the full power of American ingenuity. AI is far too important to be stifled by bureaucracy or burdensome regulations. By removing barriers and fostering private-sector-led advancements, we are accelerating the development of AI systems that will revolutionize industries, create new opportunities, and improve lives," states the action plan.
The document further emphasizes: "Our infrastructure pillar is a commitment to building the foundation for AI dominance... These efforts will not only secure America’s technological future but also create high-paying jobs and protect our critical systems from foreign adversaries."
Internationally, it notes: "We are exporting our AI technology to allies, countering authoritarian influence in international governance, and enforcing strict export controls to safeguard sensitive innovations."
The United States calls for collaboration with other countries sharing similar values in advancing responsible use of artificial intelligence across sectors including medicine, manufacturing, education, and communication.
"Together, we can harness AI’s transformative power to usher in a new era of human flourishing, economic growth, and global security... The future is ours to shape. Let us seize this moment and build a world defined by innovation, prosperity, and freedom," concludes the statement.
