A security alert has been issued by the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé, Cameroon, ahead of increased law enforcement activity scheduled for Monday, August 4, 2025. The heightened presence will be concentrated around the Palais des Congrès, also known as the Yaoundé Convention Center, located in the Tsinga neighborhood near Bastos.
According to senior law enforcement officials responsible for the area that includes the Palais des Congrès, "any attempt to disrupt the Constitutional Council’s proceedings will not be tolerated." The statement follows an official alert from district authorities about maintaining order during upcoming events at this location.
U.S. government personnel have been advised to limit non-essential movements and exercise caution beginning Monday. Specific guidance includes avoiding large gatherings and steering clear of areas surrounding the convention center. Travelers are encouraged to remain vigilant and monitor credible news sources for updates on local security developments.
Additional recommendations include being aware of one's surroundings and carrying valid identification such as a U.S. passport at all times. Compliance with instructions given by law enforcement is strongly advised.
